About

Jenny McGinnis started photographing early in life; her current photographic work began with frequent exposure and travel to the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada.  In 2011, she started a five-year ongoing project documenting the sights and places of Route 66, culminating in her first gallery exhibition in April 2016 with the Bona Thompson Memorial Center in Indianapolis.  The success of that exhibition led to the start of her photography website, with photos that are sometimes the last visual documentation of places and roadside Americana that are all too quickly disappearing every day.  From 2016 through 2021 her projects have included travels to various sections of Route 66, the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio, documenting the doo-wop motels of Wildwood, New Jersey, along the Jersey Shore; a trip to California to photograph Googie architecture and neon signage in Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank and Anaheim, and a trip to the Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale areas of Arizona to photograph signage.  She is an advocate for historic preservation and repurposing of older buildings, with special interest in saving neon signage, drive-in theaters, diners and vintage theaters.
